چکیده

Abstract. The last time in Earth's history when high latitudes were warmer than during pre-industrial times was the interglacial period (LIG, 129–116 ka BP). Since LIG is most recent and best documented interglacial, it can provide insights into climate processes a world. However, some key features of are not well constrained, notably oceanic circulation global carbon cycle. Here, we use new database benthic δ13C to investigate these two aspects. We find that mean ∼ 0.2 ‰ lower (here defined as 125–120 BP) compared Holocene (7–2 A terrestrial content at could have led both atmospheric δ13CO2 observed paleo-records. given multi-millennial timescale, likely reflects long-term imbalance between weathering burial carbon. distribution Atlantic Ocean suggests no significant difference latitudinal depth extent North Deep Water (NADW) Holocene. Furthermore, data suggest NADW transport similar periods.

The deep ocean during the last interglacial period.

Oxygen isotope analysis of benthic foraminifera in deep sea cores from the Atlantic and Southern Oceans shows that during the last interglacial period, North Atlantic Deep Water (NADW) was 0.4 degrees +/- 0.2 degrees C warmer than today, whereas Antarctic Bottom Water temperatures were unchanged. Model simulations show that this distribution of deep water temperatures can be explained as a resp...

Rapid reductions in North Atlantic Deep Water during the peak of the last interglacial period.

Deep ocean circulation has been considered relatively stable during interglacial periods, yet little is known about its behavior on submillennial time scales. Using a subcentennially resolved epibenthic foraminiferal δ(13)C record, we show that the influence of North Atlantic Deep Water (NADW) was strong at the onset of the last interglacial period and was then interrupted by several prominent ...

Equatorial decline of reef corals during the last Pleistocene interglacial.

The Last Interglacial (LIG; ca. 125,000 y ago) resulted from rapid global warming and reached global mean temperatures exceeding those of today. The LIG thus offers the opportunity to study how life may respond to future global warming. Using global occurrence databases and applying sampling-standardization, we compared reef coral diversity and distributions between the LIG and modern. Latitudi...
